French Revolution Strikes Cottage Grove

It's Saturday morning and Fleur de Lis Patisserie and Café owner Maureen Rosenberger is busy behind the counter, a huge smile on her face as she cheerfully greets customers by name, jokes around and serves them the tempting fresh pastries that fill the bakery's cases.
You can ask anyone in Cottage Grove where the hottest new café in town is located, it's a name that's not common in Southern Lane County, but once you eat the food, the words "Fleur De Lis" just roll off the tongue.
People in town tell us "Fleur De Lis" translates into downtown revitalization in "The Grove." The streets are busy, people are excited, and this place is a hit. There are two main reasons for the success. One is Maureen Rosenberger (the woman with lots of personality) the second is Eric Jegat, the French Pastry Chef. Yep, they are partners in life and business.
My wife Kathy and I had lunch there and it was amazing. Kathy had the Salmon Caesar Salmon Salad and was impressed. The filet of salmon on top was huge. I had the Chicken Curry Apple Walnut Croissant, it was delicious. We had a cup of French Onion Soup and cup of Clam Chowder both were very good. Be forewarned a cup of soup at "Fleur De Lis" is like ordering a bowl at most places!
We also enjoyed dessert, Maureen gave us a sample of several, and all were delicious. The pastries are fluffy and flakey and fabulous. The cream fillings and vanilla melt in your mouth. Okay, I'll stop because this is making me hungry again.

Maureen and Eric moved here from Monterey, California where they already had a very successful café. They were visiting Oregon and decided to stop by Cottage Grove, the rest is history. They took a chance, moved here, changed Downtown Cottage Grove with French Pastries, and have made a lot of locals very happy.
"Fleur De Lis" is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7am to 3pm.
They also have summer hours on Sunday.
Maureen and Eric are proof that taking a risk, following a hunch, working hard at what you love and what you're good at can really pay off. It's well worth the drive to Cottage Grove.
